Helen Marie SYFERT, 93, of Mt. Pleasant, and formerly of Hillsboro, died Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2016, at Park Place Elder Care.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Salem Friends Church, with the Rev. Jared Haley, officiating. Burial will be in Salem East Cemetery (note: in Henry Co., IA).
Visitation will begin after noon Friday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant, where the family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m.

Mrs. SYFERT was born April 2, 1923, on the family farm, 7 miles north of Stockport, the daughter of Cleo and Mamie WILSON WATSON. She married Harold SYFERT July 21, 1943, in Ottumwa. He died Oct. 15, 2006.
After graduating from Stockport High School in 1941, she worked for neighbors taking care of the elderly. At the time of her marriage, she became a farm wife and worked to help her husband on the family farm.
Living in the rural Salem area until 1976, Mrs. SYFERT and her husband left farming and moved to Fairfield. In 1982, they returned to Hillsboro. After Mr. SYFERT's death, she moved to Mt. Pleasant in 2006 and lived at The Willows, then Park Place Elder Care three years ago.
Family was a priority for Mrs. SYFERT, and she enjoyed cooking and baking for them. She had a large vegetable garden, canned many vegetables each year, and liked crocheting and embroidering.
Mrs. SYFERT attended Salem Friends Church.
Survivors include: two sons, Carroll SYFERT and wife Jeanette of Salem, and Doyle SYFERT and wife Nancy of Salem; one brother, Virgil WATSON of Fairfield; one sister, Eileen HARPER of Fairfield; nine grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: one daughter, Louise PICKARD; one son-in-law, Richard PICKARD; and one brother, Melvin WATSON.
