Phyllis J. SWINK

Phyllis Joan SWINK, 87, of Mt. Pleasant, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2016, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington (note: in Des Moines Co., IA).

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, with the Rev. Mike Hess officiating. Burial will be in Hillsboro Cemetery (note: in Henry Co., IA).

Visitation will begin after noon Wednesday at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials can be given to Great River Hospice House or Calvary Baptist Church. Online condolences can be made at www.olsonpowell.com.

Mrs. SWINK was born Jan. 3, 1929, in Fairfield, the daughter of Samuel S. and Mary E. ELLIOTT PERRY. She married Frank SWINK April 1, 1950. He preceded her in death (note: on March 22, 2002).

As a teenager in high school, she worked at F. W. Woolworth. She graduated from Fairfield High Schol in 1947. She began working in the Louden Manufacturing office and later was employed by Martin's Drugstore in Fairfield.

The SWINKs moved to Muscatine in 1955, then to Mt. Pleasant in 1962, when Mr. SWINK went to work at Bluebird Midwest at the beginning of its operations. Mrs. SWINK worked for several years as a sales clerk for Panther Drug. She then worked at Fankhauser's Dairy and later returned to work at Panther Drug.

She attended Calvary Baptist Church.

Mrs. SWINK was a member of the Mt. Pleasant VFW Auxiliary.

Mr. SWINK and her husband together collected Precious Moments. She enjoyed bowling, reading, and spending time with her family.

Survivors include: two daughters, Paula POTTER and husband Dave of Olathe, Kansas, and Ann NOEL and husband Mike of Mt. Pleasant; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: her parents; six brothers; and five sisters.
