Hazel L. SHIPLEY, 92, of Keosauqua, died at 5:46 p.m. Sunday, May 15, 2016, at Keosauqua Health Care Center in Keosauqua.
The funeral will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua, with the Rev. Mary Kathryn Hart officiating. Burial will be in Center Chapel Cemetery, southeast of Keosauqua (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).
Visitation will open at 3 p.m. Wednesday, with family present 5-7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Memorials to Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center or Helping Hands can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 701 Dodge St., Keosauqua 52565.
Mrs. SHIPLEY was born Sept. 8, 1923, in Henry Township, the daughter of Floyd A. and Kathryn D. BARTHOLOMEW ARNOLD. She married Samuel E. SHIPLEY March 4, 1950, in Bloomfield. He died March 20, 2008.
Mrs. SHIPLEY grew up in rural Van Buren County and attended country schools. She spent her adult life in Keosauqua.
She worked at the Iowa Army Ordinance Plant in Burlington, Van Buren County Hospital, Barker Wire Company and Barker Ltd. and cleaned houses, all in Keosauqua.
She was a member of Keosauqua United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed gardening, fishing, fish fries, harness racing, playing 10 point pitch and rummy with her grandchildren. Her favorite thing was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Survivors include: four sons, Richard "Butch" SHIPLEY with Julie of Keosauqua, Larry SHIPLEY with Betty of Keosauqua, Terry SHIPLEY with Lydia of Camp Creek, Texas, and Clark SHIPLEY with Sue SCHLEGEL of Cazenovia, New York; one daughter, Grace BUTTERFIELD with Ray of Palm Harbor, Florida; two brothers, John ARNOLD of Keosauqua and Mike ARNOLD of Crete, Illinois; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: three brothers, Bud, Bill and Earl ARNOLD; and one grandson.
