Erma STANSBERRY

Erma STANSBERRY, 89, of SunnyBrook Living Care Center in Fairfield, died today, Friday, March 11, 2016.

A private service is planned. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield.

Visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Monday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to Holiday Lighting Committee c/o Fairfield Area Chamber of Commerce, which can be left at the funeral home or mailed to family at 2377 Osage Ave., Fairfield 52556. Online condolences can be left for the family at www.behnerfh.com .

Mrs. STANSBERRY was born April 9, 1926 in the home of her parents, Andrew Fredrick and Elnora THOMSON DAUB of Fairfield. She married John STANSBERRY April 9, 1948, in Des Moines. He died in January 2013.

Mrs. STANSBERRY graduated from Fairfield High School in 1944. She worked at Schafer Pen and Pencil in Fort Madison before attending Burlington School of Cosmetology.

She owned and operated her own beauty shop in Fairfield. When she and her husband retired, they made McAllen, Texas, their winter home, and Birmingham their summer home, moving permanently to Birmingham in 2004.

Mrs. STANSBERRY loved working outside, mowing her yard and working with her flowers. She loved playing bingo, wii bowling and playing cards, especially King of the Corner, 10-point pitch and Hearts. Caring for her husband and children was always first in her life.

Survivors include: one son, John STANSBERRY Jr. and wife Bev of McAllen, Texas; two daughters, Debra RODIBAUGH and husband Doug of Littleton, Colorado, and Andra ADAM and husband Dennis of Fairfield; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; sisters, Gladys BLOOMQUIST, Louise DuBOIS, Edna SEARLE, and Wilma STANLEY; brothers, Raymond, Leland and Robert DAUB.
