George Addison VORHIES

George Addison VORHIES, 96, of Fairfield, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

A memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Behner Funeral Home in Fairfield, with the Rev. Elizabeth Bell officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date.

Visitation for family and friends will be 9:15-10:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Memorials can be amde to V.F.W. National Home for Orphans or Camp Courageous. Cards and memorials can be sent to Leslie GENTRY, 205 E. Buchanan Ave., Apt. C3, Fairfield 52556. Online condolences can be made to the family at www.behnerfh.com .

Mr. VORHIES was born July 10, 1919, in Lockridge, the son of Marshall and Emma JOHNSON VORHIES. He married Dora ADAMS Jan. 10, 1945, in Fairfield. She died Oct. 14, 2012.

Mr. VORHIES served in the U.S. Navy from 1936 to 1945 during World War II. He was a Pearl Harbor survivor.

Mr. VORHIES worked at The Dexter Company as a metal smith for 37 years.

He was a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Fairfield.

He was a member of the VFW Post 2271, where he was a past local post commander.

Mr. VORHIES was an avid trap and skeet shooter and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved spending time with family and friends.

Survivors include: two children, Leslie GENTRY of Fairfield and Lane VORHIES and wife Julie, also of Fairfield; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by: his parents; and four brothers, Clarence, Grant, Harold and Lester VORHIES.
