Patricia SMITH HYDE, 81, of Brighton, died early today, Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton.

Patricia HYDE

Patricia HYDE, 81, of Brighton died early Friday, Aug. 7, 2015, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Church of God in Brighton, with the Rev. Ryan Meader officiating. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery near Coppock.

Visitation with the family will open at 4 p.m. today, with the family present 5-7 p.m., at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton.

Memorials have been established for Brighton Volunteer First Responders or Brighton Volunteer Fire Department.

Mrs. HYDE was born July 15, 1934, in Brighton, the daughter of Clarence and Dorah FARRIER SMITH. She married Richard HYDE Feb. 18, 1953, in Kahoka, Missouri. He died Jan. 9, 2008.

Her father served in the U.S. Navy so she started school in Hawaii and traveled to Connecticut and California before returning to Iowa in 1943. She graduated from Brighton High School in 1951.

Mrs. HYDE lived all of her married life in the Brighton area.

She loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing all of her life. She was heavily involved in her children's activities supporting and helping with Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and 4-H. She enjoyed her coffee club and loved to crochet, quilt and knit and donated many projects to raffles or to friends.

Survivors include: three sons, David HYDE and wife Vicky of Birmingham, Phillip HYDE and wife Beth of Washington, Iowa, and Billy HYDE and wife Ruth HYDE of Brighton; one daughter, Cyndi CHRISTENSEN and husband Dan of Brighton; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Pepper SMITH of Brighton, Shirley ROBERTSON of Farmington and Jean GILLIGAN of Mountain Home, Arkansas.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: her parents; and an infant sister, Virginia.
