Richard UNDERWOOD

Richard C. UNDERWOOD, 83, of Ollie, died Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at the MHP Hospice Serenity House in Oskaloosa.

The funeral is set for 11 a.m. Friday at Ollie Baptist Church in Ollie, with the Rev. Gary Reeves officiating. Burial will be in the Ollie Cemetery near Ollie (note: in Keokuk Co., IA).

Visitation will begin after noon Thursday at Fremont Funeral Chapel in Fremont, where the family will greet friends and relatives from 5-7 p.m. Memorials can be made to the Richard Underwood Memorial Fund.

Mr. UNDERWOOD was born Feb. 9, 1931, in Ainsworth, the son of Milburn and Minnie KOEHLER UNDERWOOD. He married Beverly WEBER Dec. 23, 1953, at Ollie Baptist Church. She preceded him in death.

Mr. UNDERWOOD graduated from Ollie High School in 1949. Following graduation, he joined the United States Air Force and served as an aircraft mechanic from 1951-1955 with the 53rd Fighter Bomber Squadron. After his discharge, he returned to Ollie to farm the family farm. He farmed until his retirement in 1992.

Mr. UNDERWOOD was a member of Ollie Baptist Church.

His pastimes included woodworking, camping, boating, fishing, tinkering with tractors and golfing. Most of all, he enjoyed his family.

Survivors include: one daughter, Rebecca WILCOX and husband Allen of Carlisle; two sons, Bruce UNDERWOOD and wife Joelle of Woodruff, Wisconsin, and Brent UNDERWOOD of Cupertino, California; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Donald UNDERWOOD of Coralville; and one sister, Darlene MORRIS of Cedar Rapids.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by: his parents; and one brother, Carl UNDERWOOD.
