Services are pending at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

Robert E. "Bob" SASSEEN, 82, of Fairfield, Iowa passed away of Parkinson's Disease at 2:58 pm Tuesday, January 20, 2015.
Visitation will be held at 10 am Saturday, January 24, 2015 at Raymond Funeral Home with the family present from 10:00 to 11;00 am; Masonic Rights (sic - Rites) beginning at 11:00 am followed by the Celebration of Life. Masonic Rights (sic - Rites) will be presented by Bob Breckenridge with Dan Smith officiating.
Memorials have been set up through the American Parkinson's Disease Association and Care Initiatives Hospice of Albia, Iowa. Cards and memorials can be mailed to 1702 Linden Drive Apt. D, Fairfield, Iowa 52556.
Robert was born August 9, 1932 at Jefferson County Hospital, the son of Houston and Naoma SASSEEN. He married Lois BELL on September 22, 1951 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. They lived in Lockridge for 5 years before moving to Fairfield in 1956.
He attended Lockridge High School where he drove a school bus his senior year, during which he also worked at Crane's Texaco station in Lockridge. After graduating he worked for Vorhies Implement for 5 years. After moving to Fairfield with his wife Lois he worked for Skelgas driving a bulk tank truck delivering propane for 35 years until he retired in 1987.
He joined the 34th Division of the Iowa National Guard in 1950 and served for 8 years. He was also a 50 year member of the Masonic Clinton Lodge number 15. Robert was a charter member of the Lockridge Lions Club and he and his family were members of the Fairfield Camping Club (Fairfield Weakenders) as well as the National Campers and Hikers Association. Robert also was a member of the Shriners.
Robert loved spending time with his family including sharing his love of chocolate and sweets with his great-grandkids. His hobbies included collecting and restoring monkey wrenches, camping all over the United States and traveling south for the winters, constantly being in the garage tinkering, collecting matchbooks, pens, and pencils, and enjoyed watching NASCAR.
Survivors include his wife Lois; two daughters Cindy RIPPEY (Larry) of Fairfield, and Connie BEVER of West Des Moines. He has two granddaughters, Cari PORTER and Casie BERGMAN (Adam); two grandsons, Justin BEVER and Brandon BEVER; and two great-grandchildren Garrett PORTER and Ellasyn BERGMAN; two step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren. Also his sister Marilyn BELL of Cullman, Alabama.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
