Dorothy POLLOCK

Dorothy POLLOCK, 91, formerly of Douds, died at 6:53 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at Northcrest Health Center in Ames.

A funeral and burial will be at a later date.

Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds is handling the service.

Dorothy POLLOCK

Dorothy POLLOCK, 91, of Ames, formerly of Douds, died at 6:53 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015, at Northcrest Heartwood House in Ames.

The funeral is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christ United Methodist Church in Douds, with the Rev. Mark Young and the Rev. Robert G. Farr officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery, east of Douds.

Visitation will open at 3 p.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Douds, with the family present from 5-7 p.m.

Memorials to Christ United Methodist Church or Twin City Chapter Order of Eastern Star can be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 2852 N. 500th Ave., Ames 50014.

Mrs. POLLOCK was born March 6, 1923, in Douds, the daughter of Stanley A. and Bertha DOROTHY BARKER. She married Davis E. POLLOCK July 7, 1940, at her parents' home in Douds. He died Aug. 31, 2014.

Mrs. POLLOCK graduated from Douds High School as valedictorian of the Class of 1940. She and her husband moved to Washington, D.C., after their marriage, where he was employed by the U.S. War Department. They returned to Douds in 1942 and became associated with Barker Mercantile. They later purchased the store, which they operated until retirement. She also served as Douds School secretary for 22 years.

The POLLOCKs were active in Douds. She was active all her life in the Methodist church, taught Sunday school, served on the church board and various committees and was treasurer of United Methodist Women for 20 years. Her church work began in the former Douds church, now Christ United Methodist. Mr. and Mrs. POLLOCK were among those who worked to build the present church building.

She was a 50-plus year member and past matron of Twin City Chapter 258 OES, was active in the Republican Party and had been a Scout leader. She was an avid reader and loved playing bridge. She enjoyed seeing their children graduate from college and become contributing adults to society.

The POLLOCKs had traveled to New Zealand, Hawaii, several European countries, Morocco and throughout the United States, but always looked forward to returning home to Douds.

Survivors include: two daughters, Margy HOWARTH and husband Dean of Ames and Carol POLLOCK of San Diego, California; one daughter-in-law, Marcia POLLOCK of Madison, Wisconsin; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: one son, Davis A. POLLOCK; and one sister, Anna Margaret MORRISON.
