Davis E. POLLOCK

Davis E. POLLOCK, 93, of Ames and formerly of Douds died at 12:40 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, at Northcrest Health Center in Ames.

The funeral is set for 10:30 a.m. Friday at Christ United Methodist Church in Douds, with the Rev. Robert G. Farr and the Rev. Mark Young officiating. Burial, with military honors by John Hyson Reneker Post, will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery east of Douds (note: in Van Buren Co., IA).

Visitation will open at 3 p.m. Thursday at Pedrick Funeral Home, with family present 5-7 p.m. Masonic rites by Celestial Lodge will be at the church following the funeral.

Memorials to Christ United Methodist Church can be left at the funeral home, church or mailed to the family at 2852 N. 500th Ave., Ames 50014.

Mr. POLLOCK was born April 16, 1921, in Douds-Leando, the son of Roscoe and Elizabeth DOUD POLLOCK. He married Dorothy BARKER July 7, 1940, at her parents' home in Douds.

He graduated from Douds High School in1939 and from Iowa Success School in Ottumwa. In 1940, the POLLOCKs moved to Washington, D.C., where he worked for the U.S. State Department. In 1942, they returned to Douds where he became affiliated with Barker Mercantile, which he later owned and operated for many years. He also owned and operated D.E. Pollock Insurance Agency.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a storekeeper in Little Creek, Virginia, during World War II.

Mr. POLLOCK was a lifelong active member of Christ United Methodist Church and served on the official board and many committees. He was a past master and longtime treasurer of Celestial Lodge No. 413, Ancient Free and Accepted Masons, member of Twin City Chapter No. 258 Order of the Eastern Star, served many years as adjutant of John Hyson Reneker Post No. 494, American Legion, secretary of Douds Community Club and a volunteer fireman with Douds Fire Department. He had also served on the Douds-Leando school board, was founder of the former Douds Development Corporation, served on the Van Buren Foundation Board and was active in Douds Field Day and Van Buren County Republican Party.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Margy HOWARTH and husband Dean of Ames and Carol POLLOCK of San Diego, California; daughter-in-law, Marcia POLLOCK of Madison, Wisconsin; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: one son, Davis POLLOCK; one sister, Elizabeth SUTHERLAND; and two brothers, John and Larry POLLOCK.
