Wilma WEST, 90, of Fairfield and formerly of East Pleasant Plain, died Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 16, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton.

Wilma Evelyn WEST

Wilma Evelyn WEST, 90, of Fairfield and formerly of East Pleasant Plain, died Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

The funeral is set for 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Pleasant Plain Friends Church, with the Rev. Mac McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Plain Friends Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be 4-6 p.m. Friday at the church.

Memorials for the Brighton Lions, Pleasant Plain Friends Church or American Lung Association can be left at the church or mailed to the family at 500 W. Depot Ave., Apt. F, Fairfield 52556.

Gould Funeral Home of Brighton is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. WEST was born May 11, 1924, in Clark County, Missouri, the daughter of Archie Ronald and Bertha Irene PRUETT COCHRAN. She married Homer G. WEST Aug. 8, 1959, in Memphis, Missouri. He died May 28, 2014.

She grew up in Kahoka, Missouri, and graduated from high school in Revere, Missouri, in 1942.

During World War II, she worked at W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co. in Fort Madison and later at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown.

She moved around the country with her husband while he worked construction. She held many jobs, but homemaking was her most important. The WESTs moved back to Iowa in 1987 after his retirement.

Mrs. WEST was very active in the Pleasant Plain Friends Church, the USFW, Thunderbird Association for Red Cloud Tribe in South Dakota, helping collect and distribute clothing. She also collected and distributed food to local needy families and always helped those in need.

She was a member of the Antique Auto Club of America and judged car shows for 10 years, and she was an active member of the Brighton Lions Club.

She enjoyed gardening, baking and canning, sewing and quilting.

Survivors include: two daughters, Sharon WEST of Fairfield and Lana COX and spouse Uli TRIEB of Davenport; one stepson, Jake WEST and wife Nancy of Blue Grass; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Ronald COCHRAN of Weaver and Robert COCHRAN of Argyle; and three sisters, Lois WIXOM of Keokuk, Twila HARPER of Kahoka, Missouri, and Norma Jeanie SATORI of Columbia, South Carolina.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: her parents; one son, Ronald DAVIS; one stepdaughter, Connie Sue WEST; one sister, Erma COCHRAN; and one half-brother, Stanley COCHRAN.
