Homer G. WEST

Homer G. WEST, 86, of Fairfield and formerly of East Pleasant Plain, died early today, Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

Arrangements are pending at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton.

Homer Glen WEST

Homer Glen WEST, 86, of Fairfield, and formerly of East Pleasant Plain, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

A funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Pleasant Plain Friends Church with the Rev. Mac McDonald officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Plain Friends Cemetery.

Visitation with the family is 5-7:30 p.m. Friday at the church.

Memorials for the Iowa Lions Sight and Hearing Conservation Fund or the Pleasant Plain Friends church may be left at the church or mailed to the family at 505 W. Stone Ave., Fairfield 52556.

Gould Funeral Home of Brighton is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. WEST was born April 18, 1928, in Keota, the son of Glen I. and Faye C. SINGLETON WEST. He married Wilma E. COCHRAN Aug. 8, 1959, in Memphis, Missouri.

He grew up in Pleasant Plain and graduated from Pleasant Plain High School in 1945.

He worked in construction as project manager for Weitz Co. of Des Moines for 30 years.

He and his wife lived in many locations including, Nebraska, Ohio, Chicago, Illinois, North Carolina, Kansas, Florida and New Orleans.

He was a member of the Pleasant Plain Friends Church.

He alwo was amember of NRA, AARP, Carpenters Local No. 1260 in Iowa City for 65 years, and honorary member of Brighton Lions Club.

He was senior judge for Antique Automobile Club of America. He showed a 1929 Chrysler Model 65 in car shows for many years, winning many first place awards.

He and his wife collected and delivered clothing to a South Dakota Indian Reservations (sic) for 25 years and they traveled to help build Christian retirement homes.

He loved to hunt deer.

Survivors include his wife, Wilma of Fairfield; two sons, Gerald "Jake" WEST and spouse Nancy of Blue Grass, and Jeffery WEST and spouse Jan of Davenport; two daughters, Lana COX and spouse Uli TRIEB of Davenport and Sharon WEST of Fairfield; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Floyd WEST of Fairfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Connie Sue WEST; one son, Ronald DAVIS; one grandson; and one brother, Cloyce WEST.
