Hazel Anna WILBURN

Hazel Anna WILBURN, 101, formerly of Eldon, died Monday, Dec. 15, 2014, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

A private family burial is planned for Friday in Evergreen Cemetery in Vinton (note: in Benton Co., IA).

Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Kremer Funeral Chapel in Batavia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be directed to the Batavia Volunteer Fire Department. Friends can sign the online guest book at www.kremerfh.com.

Mrs. WILBURN was born Oct. 20, 1913, in Garrison, the daughter of George and Rose MEALHOUSE GORDON. She married Rollie WILBURN of Eldon. He died in 1977.

The GORDON children were raised in Vinton, where Mrs. WILBURN attended school and kept busy with her brothers and sisters.

After her marriage, she and her husband moved to Eldon where they lived on his family farm. She was a homemaker, always busy cooking, mending clothes or helping on the farm.

After her husband's death, she began working at Whitey's, also known as Jones Café, where she worked in the kitchen for numerous years.

In her spare time, she would knit. She also loved to quilt and bake, and was known for her pies. She shared her skills with those she loved, friends and those in need. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren participate in different events.

Survivors include: one daughter, Lynda YOCHUM and husband Bernard of Batavia; one sister, Margaret GULICK of Vinton; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by: one son, Wilson WILBURN; and several siblings.
