Harold HORSTMAN

Harold HORSTMAN, 86, of rural Bonaparte, died at 2:14 a.m. today, Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

Arrangements are pending at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua.

Harold V. HORSTMAN

Harold V. HORSTMAN, 86, of rural Bonaparte, died Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Bonaparte United Church with the Rev. Goldie Laymon and the Rev. Richard Eis officiating. Burial will be in Bonaparte Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Sargeant-Osweiler Post No. 563.

Visitation opens at 2 p.m. Friday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with family present 5-7 p.m.

Memorials to Bonaparte United Church or Bonaparte EMT may be left at the funeral home or church or mailed to the family at 1207 Hwy. 16, Hillsboro 52630.

Mr. HORSTMAN was born Dec. 2, 1926, in rural Bonaparte, the son of Phillip Charles and Emma Grace MILLER HORSTMAN. He married Joanna M. HENDRICHSEN April 28, 1956 in Bonaparte Presbyterian Church. She died Jan. 22, 2013.

Mr. HORSTMAN and his wife farmed near Bonaparte. He also sold DeKalb seed corn for many years and had worked at Bonaparte Mill and drove a Harmony school bus.

He served in the U.S. Naval Air Corps during World War II.

He was a member of Bonaparte United Church where he had been an elder, Sunday school teacher and served in other capacities.

He was a 60-year member of Sargent-Osweiler Post No. 563 American Legion and served as president of the former Bonaparte Lions Club.

He was a devoted husband and father and enjoyed attending his children's and grandchildren's sports events, concerts and other activities.

He also enjoyed playing cards, hunting and fishing and hunting mushrooms.

He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Survivors include one son, Kenny HORSTMAN and spouse Candy of Bonaparte; two daughters, Kathy VAN WINKLE of Hillsboro and Lori BANK and spouse Lloyd of Salem; six grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Dorothy HORSTMAN of Bonaparte.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Harlan HORSTMAN.
