John Howard IBBOTSON

John Howard IBBOTSON, 62, of Baxter, died Wednesday, June 19, 2013, at Legacy Meridian Park Medical Center in Tualatin, Ore., while on a coast-to-coast ride across the United States on his Harley Davidson (sic - Harley-Davidson).

A memorial service is set for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. The service will be preceded by a time of fellowship from 5-7 p.m.

A private family interment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are being designated to the Jasper County Animal Rescue League. Online condolences can be left for the family at www.pencefh.com.

Mr. IBBOTSON was born July 8, 1950, in Mount Pleasant, the son of Howard Virgil and Charlotte Idell RILEY IBBOTSON. He married Charlene Renee HOSKINS Oct. 16, 1971, in Pleasant Plain. She died July 23, 2011.

Mr. IBBOTSON was a graduate of the Winfield-Mount Union Senior High class of 1968. He received his bachelor of business administration degree from Iowa State University in Ames and his master of business administration degree from Drake University in Des Moines.

In 1981, he and his wife moved to the Newton area.

He had served his country with the U. S. Army Reserves. He was employed by Employers Mutual Casualty Company, retiring in July 2012.

He was a member of the Baxter American Legion. He had a unique sense of humor, a broad range of knowledge and was respected for his ethics. He enjoyed hunting, painting, riding his Harley motorcycle, and was the founder of the "Hillbilly Gun Club."

Survivors include: his mother of Newton; and two brothers, Bob IBBOTSON of Newton and Gary IBBOTSON of Mount Pleasant.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his father.
