Ronald R. ELMORE

Ronald R. ELMORE, 72, of Mount Pleasant, died Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.

A memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Lincoln Street Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, with the Rev. Terry Jerrel officiating. Graveside interment will follow at Forest Home Cemetery.

Visitation is 7-8:30 p.m. today at Kimzey Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant.

Memorials may be made to Fellowship Cup.

Mr. ELMORE was born June 12, 1939, in Brighton. He married Connie DERBY, and they later divorced. He married Ann (sic - Blanche 'Ann') HECKETHORN ELMORE in 1970. She died in 2009.

Mr. ELMORE graduated from Brighton High School in 1958. He had played football for the Brighton Bears all four years. He completed an associate's degree at Iowa Wesleyan College and worked as a police officer at the Mount Pleasant Police Department. He also had been chief deputy at the Henry County Sheriff's Office and a security administrator at Vega Industries. He retired from the Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility as a correctional officer.

Mr. ELMORE served in the United States Army Iowa National Guard.

He was a member of the Henry County Sheriff's Posse. He was a Christian.

Mr. ELMORE enjoyed gardening and being a foster parent.

Survivors include four daughters: Ronda ELMORE WHITE, Kimberly ELMORE JERREL and husband Terry and Sherry BARNES BOWMAN, all of Mount Pleasant and Connie Ann ELMORE DYALL and husband Brad of Orlando, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; four great-granddaughters; and one brother: John H. LYNN of Brighton.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one daughter: Robin ELMORE; one grandson; and his mother and stepfather: Helen ALLISON LYNN and Harold.
