Norval Barger EVANS

Norval Barger EVANS, 90, of Fairfield, died Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at Jefferson County Health Center in Fairfield.

A funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Fairfield, with the Rev. Philip Barker officiating. Interment will be in Salina Cemetery.

Family visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Raymond Funeral Home in Fairfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church in Fairfield or Salina Cemetery Association.

Mr. EVANS was born Feb. 11, 1920, in Metropolis, Ill., the son of Fred and Ruby REEDUS EVANS. He married Elsie Mae LARSON June 21, 1947. She died July 14, 2009.

Mr. EVANS received a bachelor's degree in biology from Parsons College. At one time, he was co-owner of the John Deere Dealership in Fairfield.

Mr. EVANS was a veteran of World War II and was commander of a minesweeper in the Aleutian Islands.

Mr. EVANS was a member of First Lutheran Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the chamber of commerce. He served as president of the Rotary Club and was a state senator.

Survivors include one daughter, Christine Anne KEYSER and husband Earl of Fairfield; one granddaughter; and two sisters, Grace MOORE of California and Opal THORN of California.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by one brother, Charles EVANS.
