FITZWATER, Barbara Bethine -- Barbara Bethine FITZWATER, 73, of Birmingham, died Saturday, Dec. 26, 2009, at Van Buren County Hospital in Keosauqua.

A service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Birmingham Presbyterian church, with Larry Smith officiating. Interment will be in Winchester Cemetery near Birmingham.

Family visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday at the church.

Memorials have been established to Birmingham Presbyterian Church and Birmingham Public Library.

Arrangements are in the care of Raymond Funeral Home in Birmingham.

Mrs. FITZWATER was born Sept. 9, 1936, in Fairfield, the daughter of Fred and Beryl BONNETT BROWN. She married Ralph Eugene "Shorty" FITZWATER Dec. 9, 1960, in Birmingham. He died May 10, 2009.

Mrs. FITZWATER was a homemaker; she also had worked at the Van Buren County Hospital. She graduated from Birmingham High School in 1954.

Mrs. FITZWATER was a member of Birmingham Presbyterian Church, where she served as an elder and secretary of the Presbyterian Women. She had served as president of the Birmingham Library Board and was secretary-treasurer of the Birmingham Alumni Association. She also was a member of the Red Hat Society.

Survivors include three daughters, Melody Jean SUNKEN and husband David of Indianola, Janet Renee FITZWATER of Indianola and Linda Bethine FITZWATER of Albia; one granddaughter; and one brother, Clifford BROWN of Birmingham.
