OBITUARY

Robert C. SANDS

As we read in Saturday's daily of the death of R. C. SANDS at the home of his son Robert in Los Angeles, Calif., the thought came to us that a tribute to his memory should be added.

Mr. SANDS was born in Ohio but had spent the greater portion of his life here in Jefferson county. He had lived to the grand old age of 85 years, having seen the ox teams replaced by automobiles and airplane. In his early manhood he was united to the wife of his choice Miss Anna BOOKER and together they traversed life's joys and sorrows, until that grim monster death claimed the wife and mother in 1903. Eight children came to bless this union, Frank who died when a babe as did also Allie and Herbert; those living are Mrs. Bell BURKHART of Pembine, Wis., Miss (sic. Mrs.)Etta DUNCAN of Chariton, Wy., Hugh at Afton, Robert at Los Angeles, Calif., and Harry, who died a few years ago when the flu was prevalent.

About 16 years ago he moved to California, he having married Miss Emma WISHART of Elmira, Mo. She died a few years ago (sic. 1920). He still continued to make his home in California. Being in very poor health and feeble, yet he longed to visit old Jefferson county and friends, he started a few years ago but while visiting his daughter Mrs. DUNCAN in Wyoming, he was stricken with paralysis and he hovered between life and death for some time. On rallying he was taken back to his California home until now he has gone to his eternal home. The SANDS home near Beckwith was noted for its hospitality and many there are of us yet living today will ever remember the good times that we enjoyed when the "SANDS" gave a social party or entertained at a Christian Endeavor social. Mr. and Mrs. SANDS always enjoyed young people's company.

He was a farmer and stock raiser by profession. His energy and public spirit brought him into prominence and he was chosen to many public positions of honor and trust, the duties of which he always discharged with ability and fidelity. His friends and neighbors were legion. Besides his family he leaves one sister Mrs. DAWSON of Minneapolis, Minn., to mourn his loss.
