Abby, There is a town of Monmouth in Monmouth township but your Ripleys were residing in the twp. Jackson co. was, and still is, primarily rural. Mary Ripley on the 1885 Ia state census is enumerated as Mary E. Ripley (still in Monmouth twp), so I guess the E. could be for Elizabeth/Lizzie. For a township map go to www.skcensus.com. Click on a state, then county. Will give you that counties twp. map. You might want to contact the Jackson co. Museum & Historical Society in Maquoketa for any specific requests you might have. Dick
