Funeral services for Ray Grimm of Cresco were held at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, March 23 at the St. Joseph’s Worship Center in Cresco. The Rev. Henry W. Charipar officiated. Interment was in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery, rural Elma. Conway Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
Ray, 72, died Tuesday, March 20, 2001 at the Evans Memorial Home in Cresco of Lewy Body Disease.
Raphael John Grimm was born June 12, 1928 the son of Fred and Rose (Kapler) Grimm. He was baptized and confirmed in his faith at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Cresco. He attended St. Joseph’s School until the eighth grade and graduated from Cresco High School in 1947. Following high school, he attended a business school in Milwaukee, WI. After his education, he began working as a photostat operator for Rath Packing Co. He was inducted into the armed forces of the United States on March 6, 1951, serving for two years and being discharged on March 6, 1953. Following his service period, he worked for a short time, and then became a brother in the religious life. Later his career focused as a credit manager for St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, NJ. He returned to Cresco in 1987. On September 16, 1989 he married Doris Haskovec at St. Joseph’s Catholic church by the Rev. Roger R. Rethamel. They made their home in Cresco where Ray became active in church activities, especially RCIA, in which Ray and Doris participated in for over 10 years.
Ray liked to travel and enjoyed the arts.
Survivors include his wife Doris; two step daughters: Patricia Portee of Elma and Karen Bemabe of Lindenhurst, IL; four step grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; one brother: Sylvester; and one sister: Arietta Rose, both of Cresco.
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; one step daughter: Denise Haskovec; three brothers: Joseph, George, and Bernard; and four sisters: Agnes and Helen Grimm, Wilma Tupy and Cecelia Scanlon.
