from Elma library collection assembled by Marian (Marr) McGeeCHARLES CITY - Robert W. Loftus, 63, formerly of Elma, died Thursday, May 4 at his home in Charles City of cancer.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 8 at Conway Funeral Home in Elma With Rev. Roger R. Rethamel officiating.
Burial was in Our Lady of Lourdes Cemetery with Joe Hensley, Roger Jacobs, Dave Zobeck, Chris Rankin, Brian Deetz, Louis Trachta and Dennis Beaver serving as casket bearers.
Visitation was from 4 to 8 .m. on Sunday, May 7 at Conway Funeral Home in Elma where there was a 4:30 p.m. Rosary and a 7 p.m. Scripture Service.
Robert Walter Loftus was born Oct. 25, 1936 near Elma, the son of Gathian and Olga (Zobeck) Loftus. He attended Immaculate Conception Academy in Elma through the eighth grade. He later went on to receive his GED from Calmar. Later in life he attended NIACC in Mason City for plumbing and heating.
Robert married Becky Hensley on June 28, 1958 at Immaculate Conception Church in Elma. After their marriage the couple resided in Charles City where he worked at Oliver-White Farm. He later owned and operated the Point Cafe. He also spent some time working at John Deere at Waterloo. Most recently he worked at the Charles City Country Club. He enjoyed working on cars and remodeling homes.
Survivors include his wife, Becky, Charles City; four sons, Robert (Cindy) Loftus, Charles City, Norb (Julie) Loftus, Lourdes, Marty (Kandi) Loftus and Monty Loftus, all of Charles City; four daughters, Deb (Dennis) Beaver, Cherie Loftus, Peggy Loftus and Crystal Loftus, all of Charles City; nine grandchildren; one great-grandson; and two step-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Patsy Walker.
