Atkinson/Mt. Pleasant Insane Hospital

Hello, I just found a newspaper article on my husbands great grandfather, Thomas Atkinson. It says he was taken to Mt. Pleasant Insane Hospital. The news article was dated Feb. 14, 1902. Does anyone have any records from that time period? Or suggestions where I can look to see what became of him? He has been a brickwall for MANY years! Thank you!!
