My Great Great Grandfather, Karl Konrad Beckel, was the first graduate of Wartburg Seminary. He came to America from Germany as a student to be a part of the start up Seminary in Saginaw, Michigan to provide preachers and teachers for pioneer families. After a split with the Missouri Synod that was active in Michigan, he was part of the group that came to Iowa to start the Seminary in Iowa. This took place in the 1850s. He also started a school in Dubuque in the first building that the Seminary was in. His mother, Johanna Maria Beltz Beckel, came with him to America. We would like to know where she is buried. Could anyone check St. John's Lutheran Cemetery or records for her funeral and burial? Also, Karl married Caroline Sabine Eckert on Jan. 20, 1856 in Dubuque. Does anyone have any info on her? I am curious about how they met and whether she was involved in the Seminary or school. If anyone has any info for me, please e-mail me and include the names Beckel, Beltz and Eckert in the subject so that I do not delete your e-mail. Thank you! Mary Ann
