James Wilde

WILDE, CAMP, OLNEY

My Gr-Gr-grandfather was James Wilde who came from England about 1840. In 1847, in the city of Dubuque, he married a Mary C. Camp who was born in Illinois. He and his family are shown in the 1870 census as a manufacturer in the City of Dubuque.

I wonder if James Wilde was related to George Wilde and perhaps he took over the smelting operation George Wilde ran previous to his going to California.

I believe Mary C. Camp's father was a H. T. Camp who is shown in the 1830 Illinois census in Bond County. I am trying to confirm that connection as well as any information about James Wilde as well.

I expect they both died in Dubuque, though I have no evidence of this. Their daughter, Mary Eugenia Wilde married a Henry Ceylon Olney in Dubuque about 1876. They moved to Colorado in 1880.
