Laura,
I'm glad the info. was helpful to fill in a bit of Sam's life, however scant.I found another article, although it doesn't mention Sam, it does expand on what Sam might have been doing while employed by George Peterson:
Not a full transcription - highlights only ........
Clayton County Register, Elkader, pg 2; Thurs. April 27, 1944
George Peterson, owner & operator of a sawmill at Marquette for the past four years, has purchased a second sawmill at Amana, Iowa .....
Mr. Peterson, who previously worked for 12 years with the Webster Lumber mill at St. Paul, has developed a large logging business here with a plant at Marquette and loggers working over a 50-mile area in this section of the state. Lumber is turned out at the sawmill for use in making munitions boxes, crates, gun stocks and other war materials; although the sawing of railroad ties has been his chief business.....
--- ---
Speculation only:
Because Amana, Iowa co., Iowa and Tama, Tama co., Iowa, are adjacent counties, it's very possible that Sam left Marquette & went to work at the Amana sawmill owned by Geo. Peterson and was a truck driver for George's operation when he was arrested for DWI.
He may have moved to Edgewood after that.
Just throwing it out as a possibility.
Sharyl
