Thank you Sharyl,
I am trying to reconcile Jeremiah Gould's listing in the 1852 Iowa State Census in 1852. He is listed in Clayton County, Boardman Township. At the time he was shown next to known neighbors. Yet Jeremiah and his wife, Abigail, sold all of their land in Clayton County, Iowa on 27 February 1851. Jeremiah was called to show cause why land in the Clayton County probate of John Gould should not be sold. The sheriff reported on 14 April 1851 that Jeremiah was "gone to unknown parts." I believe he was at the Missouri River about the 24th of May 1852 about to embark on the Oregon Trail. Can you think of why the enumerator included him in the 1852 census?
