Patrick Burke, 1801- Sept 4, 1893 and Mary Burke, died May 22, 1869, are buried in St. Joseph cemetery, Elkader. (for photos of their gravestones, go to the St. Joseph's cemetery page on the Clayton co. IAGenWeb site & follow the link)

If Patrick worked for the railroad, it is very possible that he was employed by the Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul RR. The RR approached from the east, to Giard Station, then continued to Beulah where it branched -going southwest to Froelich and northwest to (either Monona or Luana). The RR ran through Patrick Burke's land.

They may have attended the Catholic church in section 9 Giard twp.

Interestingly Patrick's land (40 acres) in Section 14, Giard twp., was once a part of the Basil Giard Claim (more about it can be found on the Clayton co. IAGenWeb site). See map below.
