FAILS TO RECOVER AFTER EMERGENCY OPERATION AT DUBUQUE

Funeral services for Robert H. Scholz were held Saturday afternoon in the Scholz home here. The Rev. W. J. F. Adix officiated at the rites, and at the services at the grave in City cemetery.

Mr. Scholz died late Wednesday afternoon of last week in Finley hospital, Dubuque. He had been rushed to the hospital a week earlier when he took suddenly ill while working with a survey party on the islands near Cassville.

Underwent Operation

He underwent an emergency operation that night, and for a time the doctors thought his strong body might overcome the ailment, but death came to him Wednesday. He was 62 years old.

Manager of a button factory here for more than three decades, wartime mayor of the town, a member of the town council many years, and a member of the board of education, Mr. Scholz was prominent in the business and civic affairs of the town since the turn of the century. He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows.

Under his administration as mayor, the town’s electrical distribution was built.

Born in 1875

He was born in Guttenberg Jan. 16, 1875, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Scholz. He was graduated form Guttenberg high school, and attended Bayless business college in Dubuque.

He became manager of the plant of the Montgomery Pearl Button Co. here in 1902, and continued at the head until 1933, when it discontinued operation. He was engaged in work on the river for the federal government for the past four years.

Married in 1902

He married Miss Charlotte Jenkins June 19, 1902. She died June 22, 1914. He married Mrs. Christine Beerman Rantzow Aug. 19, 1919.

He is survived by his wife, one son, Russell Scholz of Dubuque; one daughter, Mrs. Ethel Ahrens of Woodstock, Ill.; one step-son, Carl Rantzow of Davenport; two brothers, Charles Scholz of Guttenberg and Fred Scholz of Lake Wales, Fla.; one sister, Mrs. Pauline Aulwes of Guttenberg; and two grandchildren. Seven brothers and one sister preceded him in death.

Pallbearers at the funeral were John Adam, Chris Frommelt, F. J. Friedlein, Dr. E. J. Pohle, John Rademacker, and William Borcherding.

Out of town relatives and friends who attended the funeral of Robert Scholz Saturday were: Mr. and Mrs. Charles Scholz of New Hampton, Mrs. George Scholz of Alta Vista, Mrs. William Scholz of Ossian, Mrs. Herman Scholz and daughter of Dubuque, Mr. and Mrs. Francis Scholz of St. Paul, and Oliver Scholz of Oelwein.

Leroy Scholz of Waterloo, Dr. Ernest Beerman of Barrington, Ill., Otto Beerman of Milwaukee, Miss Maxine Beerman of Spencer, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Rantzow of Davenport, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Scholz of Dubuque, Mrs. Carl Ahrens of Woodstock, Ill., and Mr. and Mrs. Borgman and son of Davenport.

Ed Wichman of Barrington, Mrs. Louis Vander Hamm, Mrs. John Vander Hamm, Walter Vander Hamm, and Emerson Onken, all of Ireton.
