Mrs. MORRIS (Velma Hildur Opsand) AMUNDSON

Funeral services for Mrs. Morris Amundson were held Thursday, Aug. 23, 1990 at 11:00 a.m. in the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder. The Rev. William Palmquist officiated. Audrey Palmquist was the organist, with special music by Arthur and Clarence Amundson. Burial was in the church cemetery. The Schutte Funeral Service of Clermont was in charge of arrangements.

Velma Hildur Amundson, daughter of Harold and Gunille (Wettleson) Opsand, was born Oct. 15, 1918 in Marion Township, Clayton County, near Elgin, Iowa. She died Monday, Aug. 21, 1990 at her home in Elgin.

She was baptized and confirmed in the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder. She attended the Gunder, Elgin High School and was graduated from Postville High School in 1936. She served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

On Nov. 6, 1948 she was married to Morris Amundson in the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder. They had 3 children. For a few years they lived in the Clermont area, moving to Hildur's family farm in 1954.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, Olga, a sister, Lena, who died in infancy, a sister, Rosella Burstrom and a brother-in-law, Bernard Hanson.

Surviving are her husband, Morris, 2 sons, David and Steven of rural Elgin, a daughter, Janet Wiles of Winston Salem, NC, 4 grandchildren, 3 sisters, Alma Hanson of Elgin, Ruth Edblad of Wonewoc, WI and Norma Amundson of Clermont.

She was a lifelong member of the Marion Lutheran Church and the Women of the ELCA and the American Legion Auxiliary of Clermont. She was an active member of church, serving as a Sunday School teacher and singing in the choir, as well as many other capacities.

Casket bearers: Robert Wayne Wettleson, Roger Wettleson, Leslie Amundson, Harold Hanson, Daryl Landsgard and Albert Hanson.
