Almer Marion Amundson
Funeral services for Almer Amundson, 76, were held Monday, Nov. 4, 1991, at East Clermont Lutheran Church, rural Postville. The Rev. Kim Thacker officiated and Lois Dummermuth was organist. Special music was provided by the Luren Singers directed by Mel Ruehmann and Arthur and Clarence Amundson. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Casket bearers were: David Amundson, Robert Aanes, Eric Amundson, Kevin Amundson, Gary Landsgard and John Amundson.
Almer Marion Amundson, son of Ole and Nina (Loftsgard) Amundson, was born Jan. 15, 1915, in Clayton County on the family farm between Gunder and Clermont. He died Friday, Nov. 1, 1991, at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville.
He was baptized at East Clermont Lutheran Church and confirmed at the West Clermont Lutheran Church. Almer graduated from Clermont High School in 1933. On May 28, 1941, he married Marjorie Larson at East Clermont Lutheran Church. They had two children and farmed for 50 years in the Postville and Clermont communities. He also worked as a carpenter for the Valley Cooperative for two years.
He was a member of the East Clermont Lutheran Church and served on the church council and many other committees and community organizations. He had been a member of the Luren Singing Society for many years, board member of the Aase Haugen Homes, Inc., Northeast Iowa Mental Hearth board, AMPI Creamery Board of Clermont and Elgin and had been a 4-H leader for ten years.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clifford.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie; a son, Richard and his wife, Sally of Des Moines; a daughter, Kathleen and her husband, J. Gardner of Davenport; five grandchildren, Khristine and her husband, Ron Clopton, Peter Svebakken, Hans Svebakken and Rachel and Rebecca Amundson; four brothers, Morris of Elgin, Arthur and his wife, Norma, Clarence and his wife, Johanna and Kenneth and his wife, Ruth, all of Clermont; and a sister, Norene and her husband, Gordon Landsgard of St. Olaf.
