Myrtle Amundson [Kluss]
Myrtle Josephine Amundson Kluss died Nov. 19 at her home in Monona.
Services were Thursday at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona with Pastor Harod O. Ward officiating. Casket bearers were Milo Gisleson, Harry Amundson, Almer Amundson, Marion Loftsgard and David Larson. Burial was in St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery, Monona and Schultz's Funeral Home in Monona was in charge of arrangements.
The daughter of Louie and Emily (Erickson) Amundson she was born March 9, 1911 on a homestead near Lemmon, SD. She was baptized May 9, 1911 by Pastor O. C. Brenna. Rev. G. Gunsten confirmed her May 9, 1926 at West Clermont Lutheran Church.
She graduated from Clermont High School in 1930. She attended the University of Northern Iowa, Luther College, and Upper Iowa University. She taught school for 26 years, beginning in rural schools in Fayette, Clayton, and Allamakee counties. She taught first grade at Farmersburg, St. Olaf, and Garnavillo. She also worked at MFL schools for 8 years as a teacher's aide.
She taught Sunday School and Bible school for many years at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona.
She married Howard Kluss Sept. 29, 1935 at West Clermont Lutheran Church with Rev. G. Gunston officiating. They had 4 daughters. They resided in Monona for 47 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Howard, who died Dec. 2, 1982, and grandson Michael Roffman.
She is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Don (Georgene) Roffman of Sioux City; Beverly Fuelling, Monona; Mrs. Michael (Mary) McGeough, Waterloo; Mrs. Lee (Charlotte) DeWitt, Cedar Rapids; 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; two sisters, Harriet Olson, Clermont; Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Okey, Draper, UT; and one brother, Louis Amundson, San Diego, CA.
