G. Norman Amundson
G. Norman Amundson, son of Albert and Ella G. (Helgerson) Amundson, was born January 4, 1916 at Decorah, Iowa, Pleasant Township, Winneshiek County. He died Saturday, September 10, 1994 at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He was 78 years old.
He was baptized in 1916 at the Iowa River Church, and confirmed in 1930 at the Big Canoe Lutheran Church. He received his education at the Pleasant Township Country School near Decorah.
Norman was united in marriage to Beulah Dorothy Oelberg on April 8, 1949 at the Presbyterian parsonage in Waukon, Iowa. Five children were born to this union.
Norman and his wife resided in Monona for 22 years. Norman was a farmer, retiring in 1970. He also worked at the Ludlow Cheese Factory near Waukon for five years, and the Gunder Gas Station for two years. Norman served in the U.S. Army. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Monona, the Arthur F. Brandt American Legion Post #518 of Postville and Amvets Post #27 of Monona.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a daughter, Linda Amundson Schutte; four brothers, Alvin, Alfred, James and Lester; and one sister, Thea.
Survivors include his wife, Beulah; two sons and their wives, Albert and Mary Amundson of Clermont, Gary Lee and Anita Amundson of Waialua, Hawaii; two daughters and their husbands, Norma and Kenneth Starks of Cedar Rapids, and Brenda and Byron Moses of Monona; ten grandchildren, Amber and David Amundson, David and Kathleen Starks, Bill, Becky, Bradley, Brandon and Benjamin Moses and Christine Schutte; two sisters and their husbands, Ellen and Lester Ellingson of Decorah, and Thelma and Edwin Overholt of LaCrosse, Wisc., and a host of other relatives and friends.
Services were held Wednesday, September 14, 1994, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona with the Rev. Terry Hudson officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Connie Halvorson, organist. Honorary pallbearers were Harold Stoen, Joel Amundson, Wayne Ellingson, Edwin Overholt, Tim Enyart and Fred Oelberg. Pallbearers were Tom Oelberg, Andy Enyart, Loren Amundson, Darrell Stoen, Keith Smith and David Amundson. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery.
