Born: July 11, 1842 in Bavaria, Rupboden, Germany. Listed as 38 in the 1880 census. Came to the U.S.A. in 1867.

Buried at: Guttenberg City Cememtery, Guttenberg, Iowa

On Monday afternoon, May 5, 1919, at three o'clock at her home in Jefferson township, Clayton County, Iowa, Mrs. Magdalena Thiese passed away, after a lingering illness and at the age of 76 years, 9 months, and 24 days. Deceased was born on July 11, 1842, and in the year 1867 came to America, settling in Jefferson township, Clayton County, Iowa, where she lived until her death. In the year 1869 she married at Guttenberg, Iowa, to Mr. William Thiese, who preceeded her in death in 1915. Mrs. Thiese was a kind and loving mother and friend, always ready with heart and hand to do kind acts for others, which won her many friends, by whom she will always be remembered. She was an ambitious woman during her entire life, and was held in high esteem by all who knew her. Her death is deeply mourned by three daughters, Mrs. Lena Biederman, of Guttenberg, Mrs Kate Bergman, of Rockwell, Mrs Lizzie Mueller, of Clayton Township, five sons, Ferdinand, Herman, Otto, of Clayton towhship, Fred W. and George of Jefferson township, two step-sons, Wm Thiese of Montivideo, Minn, and August Thiese, of White Lake, S.D., forty two grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many other relatives and friends, by whom she will be missed. Funeral services will be held at the St. Johns Lutheran in this city this afternoon at three o'clock. Rev. J. Janzig will conduct funeral services. Interment will be made in the city cemetery.
