Clayton County Register/Journal, 31 Jan 1921
----

Mrs. Joseph Kramer: It was indeed sad news when on Monday it was reported that Mrs. Joe
Kramer has passed away early in the morning, after being sick but a few days. It was almost too
sudden and too sad to believe.

Katherine Wenz (daughter of John Wentz born 1824 Soellingen, Germany, d. 1910; Magalena
Stemmer Wentz b. 26 Apr. 1839 Sellengen Bade, Germany, d. 16 Nov. 1917) was born March 24,
1869, in Volga Twp., Clayton County, Iowa. On the 10th day of April 1890, she was united in
marriage with Joe Kramer. Two children were born to this union, Clara and Milton. The family
resided at various places, until they moved into the place on West Union Hill which has been their
home for the last 18 years.

On Tuesday, Jan. 18, Mrs. Kramer opened a blood blister on the little finger of her left hand. As this
was a matter of little importance, no further thought was given it. But an infection set in; the hand and
arm began to swell, and yet they did not consider it to be serious. Home remedies were applied; but
nothing seemed to help. Finally the family became alarmed, and on Friday a doctor was called.
Between hope and ear the days passed by. The patient did not seem to realize the seriousness of her
condition, repeatedly expressing her hope, that everything would be all right within a short time. But
her and our hopes and wishes were not to be fulfilled. The infection spread to the upper arm, her
condition changed from bad to worse, until Sunday night, Jan. 31, between the hours of two and
three in the morning, her weary eyes closed in the last sleep. The time of her earthly pilgrimage being
51 years, 10 months and 7 days.
