Elkader Register & Argus, Thur., 20 Feb. 1919. Strawberry Point column.

Francis Harold, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Hines living north east of town, was born in Lodomillo township, May 14, 1909, and passed away Feb. 16, 1919.

Sunday morning he took the gun and went about the yard when his cries were heard and his mother went to see what the trouble was. Just as she opened the door he said. "oh, mamma, I'm shot," and he passed away. Death is always sad event in any house-hold, but there are times when it is doubly so and this is one of those cases, when friends and loved ones cannot lend a helping hand or speak words of comfort and sympathy it makes the burden of grief all the harder to bear, by the stricken ones.

There is another little mound to be strewn with flowers and above which the summer birds will sing, while loving hands will tenderly care for and keep in order the plot of ground beneath which the form of their loved one has been laid to rest.

Sweet may his rest ever be, that rest which knows no wakening, till the trumpet soundeth when the kingdom of Heaven gaineth another bright star.

Besides his parents, little sister, grandparents, he leaves many relatives and friends to mourn his departure.

Funeral services occurred Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock in the Christian church conducted by Rev. Wells. Interment took place in the Cox Creek cemetery.

Note: Burial is in Ross cemetery. There is a photo of his gravestone on the Iowa Gravestone Photo Project site. Death certificate (familysearch.org) gives his mother as Dillie Carnicle.

Submitter is not related.
