William Miene was born May 25, 1842, at Dresden, Province of Hanover, Germany. He was twice married, his first wife being Louise Sophia Bergman, who preceded him in death in 1870. His second wife was Marie Wilhelmina Reinhardt, who died eight years ago. He came to America and settled near National, Iowa. The last years of his life he lived with his daughter, Mrs. Reinhardt of McGregor. He departed this life on March 5, 1919, at the ripe old age of 76 years, 9 months and 11 days.

He leaves to mourn his loss the following children: William Miene of Postville; Mrs. Minnie Zahn of McGregor; Fritz Miene of Postville; Mrs. Anna Reinhardt of McGregor; Mrs. Marie Treimer of National; Mrs. Louise Mohr of Luana; George Miene of McGregor, forty-two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, all of whom have the sympathy of a host of friends in their hour of sorrow. Four children preceded him in death.

The funeral was held from the Postville Lutheran church last Thursday afternoon. Interment in the Postville cemetery.
