Leslie Sherbonda Last Rites Held

Funeral services for Leslie L. Sherbonda, 68, were held Tuesday morning, June 29, at 10 o'clock at the Schultz Funeral home with Father William J. Menster officiating. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Leslie H. Smith Post No. 519 of the American Legion provided a military escort and conducted the rites at the grave.

Mr. Sherbonda died suddenly from a heart attack, Saturday morning, June 26, at 9:40 o'clock.

He was born May 5, 1897, in Linton township, Allamakee county, a son of Manuel and Laura, nee Mitchell, Sherbonda. He received his education in the Monona schools. He saw military service during World War I.

He was married to Alice Collins, Sept. 2, 1936, at St. John Baptist church at West Ridge, Iowa. The couple lived in Waukon for several years after which they went to live on a farm near Volney which is now lived on by Dwayne Johanningmeier. They lived there until January, 1954, when they retired to Monona.

Mr. Sherbonda worked for the town of Monona for three years and as a carpenter. He also was caretaker of the Monona City cemetery.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Rose Marie Schlitter of Dubuque; a brother, Hermie of Luana; a aunt, Mrs. Myrtle Thoresen of Luana; and one grandchild, Tori Susan Schlitter.

Pallbearers were Donald Huinker, Ronald Schultz, Marlyn Henderson, Al Kadlec, Eugene Ferguson, Otto Strelow and Donald Schlitter.
