Services Held For Alma Siege
Funeral services were held on July 31 at St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, for Alma Siege, who died on July 28 at the age of 88.
Pastor David Heck officated. Mrs. James Walter was the organist and members of the church choir enhanced the service with song.
Burial was in the Garnavillo City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Irvin Becker, Walter Koehn, Eugene Kraus, Maurice Meyer, Don Kraus and Lincoln Kraus.
Alma Siege, the daughter of Christian and Elizabeth (Baade) Herchert, was born on May 23, 1885, in Garnavillo Township, Clayton County, Iowa. Mrs. Siege was baptized in St. Paul Lutheran Church, Garnavillo, and was confirmed at the Ceres Pioneer Rock Church by the Rev. Otto Gemmilen.
Alma Herchert and Theodore Siege were married at the home of her parents in 1905 and had 2 daughters from that marriage, Burnett and Mabel. Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Siege moved to Guttenberg in 1920 and in 1932 Theodore Siege died. In 1949 Mrs. Siege moved to the home of one of her daughters: Mrs. Dale (Burnett) Hansel where she remained for 24 years. She faithfully attended church services whenever health permitted, and she was at present a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Farmersburg, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1932; her parents in 1935 and 1936; a sister, Mrs. Gustav (Mathilda) Reinitz; and a brother, Edward Herchert.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. August (Erana) Kraus of Garnavillo, a brother, Arnold Herchert of Gillette, Wisc., 2 daughters, Mrs. Dale Hansel (Burnett) of Farmersburg, Iowa, and Mrs. Lawrence (Mabel) Miller of McGregor; 3 grandchildren: Mary Jane Riddle of Houston, Texas, Linda Seymour of Davenport, and Duane Miller of Baltimore, Md., and 4 great grandchildren.
