Ed Knoebel Dead; 82
Edward Henry Knoebel, 82, a resident of McGregor for the past 80 years died Monday at his home
following a two-week illness. He had been in poor health for the past three months.Funeral services are being held this afternoon at the Pilkington Funeral Home with the Rev. J.J.
Horsheld officiating. Mass will be said at 8:00 o’clock Friday morning. Burial will be at Monona.Edward Knoebel was born at East Dubuque on Nov. 27, 1861. He came to McGregor at the age
of 2 years and this has since been his home. He was employed by the C.M.& St. P. R.R. for
fifty-two years.On June 26, 1886 he married Lone Oliver at Prairie du Chien. They had thirteen children whom ten survive.
There are 5 sons Alfred of Stiftwater, Minn., Fred of Sparta, Wis., Joy of Marquette, Jack of
Chicago and Mike of Omaha and 5 daughters, Mrs. Kenneth Wier of Los Angeles, Mrs. Joy
Lamphier of Fayette, Mrs. Al Rakow of Austin, Minn., Mrs. George Harrington of Marquette, and
Mrs. Lester Henkes of Dubuque. Also surviving are his widow and one sister Mrs. Sauncy Friebal
of Cedar Rapids. 34 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.-source: North Iowa Times week of June 3, 1943
