Elkader Register, Fri., 15 Apr. 1881.
Mrs. Esther Bidwell Bennington, whose death at the residence of her husband, in Sperry township, we chronicled in our last issue, was born at Erith, Huntingtonshire, England, July 17th, 1831, and was therefore nearly 50 years of age at the time of her death.
She was married to Samuel Bennington, in (looks like 1853) and in the same year they emigrated to America, settling at Lockport, N.Y., where their oldest child, Charles, was born. In 1855 they moved to Iowa, locating in Sperry township, this county, where they have resided ever since.
They had five children, all grown to man and womanhood, and who with their father, mourn the loss of a loving mother and wife.
Mrs. B. was sick but a short time, and was resigned to her fate, accepting it as the will of God. She was of a kind and gentle disposition, beloved by all who knew her, and her death leaves an aching void in many hearts.
The funeral occurred on Saturday last, and was attended by a large number of friends and relatives.
