Allan "Bud" Bacon

Allan "Bud" Bacon, son of Lloyd Alonzo and Harriett Marie (Schroeder) Bacon, was born September 1, 1932 in Clayton County, near Monona, Iowa. He passed away Sunday, October 18, 1992 in Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. He had reached the age of 60 years, 1 month and 17 days.

He graduated from Monona High School in 1950. On August 18, 1951 he was married to Beverly Jean Nelson at the Methodist Church in Luana, Iowa. To this union 4 children were born. They lived in Delaware while Bud was in the U.S. Air Force. He served as a photographer there and overseas during the Korean Conflict. When they returned to Iowa they farmed in Post Township, north of Postville, for 27 years. In 1982 they moved to their present home.

Bud was a member of the Community Presbyterian Church, the American Legion in Postville, the VFW in Waukon and the AMVETS in Monona. He had been serving as a Director for the Scandinavian Mutual Insurance Company in Waukon.

He is preceded in death by his parents. Surviving are his wife, Beverly; 3 sons: Dwight Bacon and Dan "Sam" (Sandy) Bacon, all of Postville, and Jerry (Sandra) Bacon of Albion, Iowa; one daughter: Jenny Pannell of Beaumont, Texas; 8 grandchildren: Staci and Stephani Bacon, Brett and Brittany Bacon, Joshua, Chelsea, Whitney and Seth Bacon; 4 brothers: William of Elgin, Iowa, Don (Jean) Bacon and Richard Bacon, all of Monona, and Ralph (Linda) Bacon of Postville; one sister, Shirley (Jim) Drake of Omaha, Nebraska, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Allan "Bud" Bacon were held Wednesday, October 21, 1992 at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church at Postville, Iowa. The Rev. Terrance P. Hennesy officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the Postville Cemetery.
