John Heins

A Respected Resident Suddenly Summoned

John Heins was born in Garnavillo, Iowa, January 17, 1871, and died on Thursday morning, December 19, 1927, aged 56 years, 11 months and 24 days, the summons coming to him suddenly on his farm near Castalia.

In early infancy deceased became a member of the Lutheran church through the sacrament of holy baptism. In his later years, when his parents had moved into the vicinity of Postville, Bro. Heins became a communicant member of St. Paul’s church by the rite of confirmation, administered by the now sainted Rev. Gass. In this parish he grew to manhood and here on February 1, 1895, he was united in matrimony with Miss Amelia Panncke. For four or five year the young couple made their home on a farm near Luana, then moving to the Castalia vicinity where the family still resides.

Three children were born to this happy union. One daughter died in early infancy and Gertrude passed away when four years old. Bro Heins is survived by his devoted wife and only child, Lenora; also by one brother Julius Heins of this city, and by four sister, Mrs. Geo. Lindroth and Mrs. Wm. Lindroth of Luana, Mrs. Ed. Roth and Mrs. Carl Luebbers of Monona. A host of other relatives and friends mourn with these.

The departed was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Church and of the Lutheran Brotherhood and a loyal citizen of this community. Wherever he went he carried sunshine with him and all with whom he came in contact loved him and had the highest regard for him.

The vast throng of people who came to pay a last tribute of respect to the departed brings us face to face with the fact that the people who knew him best loved him most. The floral contributions bore eloquent testimony of the high esteem in which he was held.

The funeral was held from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in this city last Saturday afternoon. Rev. E. T. Finck officiating. Interment in Postville cemetery.
