Louis Alpha Knight
Funeral services were held in the Methodist Church at McGregor for Louis Alpha Knight, Monday May 24 at 2 p.m. He died at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, May 21. He had been in poor health for over five years.He was born in Clayton County November 27, 1894 and was the son of Homer & Almira (Davis) Knight. He lived in the McGregor area all his life, until the last 15 years in Allamakee and Winneshiek Counties. He was educated in the National school near McGregor, and worked as a carpenter and construction worker.
On November 30, 1922 he married Lelia Cahoon of McGregor. She survived with their four daughters, Mrs. Sidney (Ruth) McClintock, Decorah; Mrs. Howard (Betty) Hill, Clermont; Mrs. Mervin (Hazel) Hill, Waukon and Mrs. Marvin (Shirley) Beisker, Prinston, Iowa. Three children died in infancy: Ina Rae, Eva and Glen. 15 grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Roy (Chattie) Robinson, Elgin, Ill. and three brothers, Stanley, Chicago; Sidney, Huntley, Ill. and Gayle of Fox River Grove, Ill. His parents, an infant sister and two brothers, Sabin and Oris, preceded him in death.
They had made their home the past five years with their daughter Ruth and family near Decorah.
He was a member of the McGregor Methodist Church and of the American Legion. He served in World War I in France.
Internment was at Council Hill Cemetery near Monona, with Military Services by the McGregor American Legion Post No. 267 with Rev. D.E. Kehrli officiating. Schultz funeral home were in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were: Hoomer Foster, Leonard Burchkart, Ross Dull, and Fred Ferguson of McGregor and Jac Beisker, Lyal Mitchell, Vernon Melcher and Floyd Thorstenson of the Rossville area.
