Siegele, age 92, of Palo, Iowa, formerly of Waukon, Iowa, were held Friday, January 5 at 1:30 p.m. at the Congregational Church in McGregor, Iowa with the Rev. Robert Williams officiating. Burial was in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery in McGregor, Iowa with military rites conducted by Ralph D. Waters Post #62 and Pocket City Post #276 of McGregor, Iowa. Thornburg Funeral Home of McGregor was in charge of arrangements.
Walter L. Siegele, son of Louis L. and Clara (Foley) Siegele, was born May 6, 1897 at National, Iowa. He served in the Army during World War I. He married Anna Clara Schultz on February 24, 1926 at Charles City, Iowa. They farmed in the McGregor, Garnavillo, and Waukon, Iowa areas before retiring in 1961 when they moved to Waukon, Iowa. Anna died July 17, 1980. Walter lived in Waukon until moving to Palo, Iowa in 1985 to be with his daughter. He was a 70 year member of the American Legion.
Walter L. Siegele died Monday, January 1, 1990 at Northbrook Manor Care Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In addition to his wife, Anna, he was preceded in death by his parents, 4 sisters, Gayle Siegele, Mabel E. Henkes, Amy K. Perry, Ruth Hanson, and 3 brothers, Carl F. Siegele, John T. Siegele, and Glen Siegele.
Walter is survived by his daughter, JoAnn (Charles) Stodola of Palo, Iowa; 2 granddaughters, and a step-great grandson.
