Funeral services for Helen Irene Ferguson, of Roswell, New Mexico, and formerly of Monona, Iowa, were held Thursday, January 11 at 11 a.m. at Schultz Funeral Home, Monona, Iowa. Rev. Gary Dobbins officiated. Interment was in Monona City Cemetery. Schultz Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of the arrangements. Pallbearers were Robert Szabo, Don Ostrowski, Steve Ostrowski, Jim Chrysokos, Robert Walker, and Richard Walker.

Helen Irene, daughter of Nelson and Della (Helsaple) Walker, was born April 13, 1905 in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. She received her education in Monona, Iowa, graduating from the Monona High School in 1924. She worked for a year for Roy Downing's restaurant. She moved to Chicago, Illinois and entered nurses training at Wesley Memorial Hospital, graduating in 1928 as a registered nurse. She was employed by the hospital as a supervisor on the 5th medical floor. On January 28, 1930 she married Donald R. Ferguson * SEE NOTE BELOW * in Chicago, Illinois. The couple had one daughter. They lived in Chicago, Illinois and Roswell, New Mexico. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Beacon Bible Class and the 4 L's Club, all in Roswell, New Mexico.

Helen Irene Ferguson died Monday, January 8, 1990 at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Donald, who died March 21, 1975, a brother Fred Walker and a granddaughter, Kathy.

She is survived by her daughter, Betty (James) Chrysokos of Elk Grove Village, Illinois; 2 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and a brother Donald Walker of Arizona.

NOTE: Donald R. Ferguson was the son of Ray and Elizabeth (Montgomery) Ferguson, all of Monona, Iowa.
