BAGLEY, Wis./FARMERSBURG,Iowa — Norman R. Sedlmayr, 78, of Bagley and formerly of Farmersburg, Iowa, died suddenly Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 18, 1932, the son of Phillip and Ella (Cullen) Sedlmayr.
He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict where he was awarded two Bronze Stars and the CIB Badge.
He married Arlene Lenth on Feb. 22, 1952. She preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 1976.
He was then married to Marilyn Henkes and they later divorced.He married Joan Bugenhagen-Sass on May 20, 1993.
He owned and operated Sedlmayr’s Locker Plant in Farmersburg from 1953 to 1991. Norm was the Fire Chief and a City Council member in Farmersburg. He later owned and operated Norm’s Place in Bagley for 8 years until his retirement.
He also belonged to the VFW and the American Legion.He owned a home in Grand Isle, La., and enjoyed his trips there to shrimp and fish. Norm continued to process deer after his retirement and loved watching westerns.
He is survived by his wife, Joan of Bagley; a son, Steven (Bobbi) of Nelson, Wis.; a daughter, Pamela (Tom) McCune of Pendleton, Ky.; a stepson, Dan Sass of Streeter, Ill.; a stepdaughter, Debra (Marlyn) Ohloff of Cresco, Iowa; a brother, Wayne (Carol) of Guttenberg, Iowa; three sisters, Phyllis Millin of Tomah, Mona (Roger) Huckstadt of Cedar Falls, Iowa, and Linda Sedlmayr of Farmersburg; eight grandchildren, Matt, Cari, James, Jeff, Michael, Erin, Shane and Dustin; along with two great grandchildren, Calix and Wyatt.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 17 at Zion Lutheran Church in Bagley. Interment of the cremains will be in the Farmersburg Wagner Cemetery in Farmersburg. Military rites will be accorded graveside. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday, July 16, at Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, and one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.Source: LaCrosse, WI Tribune website, July 15, 2010
