Services for Marion Bernard Loftsgard, who died Dec. 13 at his home in Clermont, were held Dec. 16 in the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder with burial in the church cemetery with military honors by the Sheehan-Olson American Legion Post No. 375 of Clermont. Rev. William Palmquist conducted the services. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Bernard, Ronald and Charles Loftsgard; DeVere Halverson; Roger, Kenneth, Wayne and Harry Amundson and Aines Olson.
He was born Dec. 15, 1918 to Theodore L. and Emma (Amundson) Loftsgard in Marion Township, Clayton County, near Elgin. He was baptized Feb. 9, 1919 in the Marion Lutheran Church by the Rev. Nels Arveson and confirmed there in 1933 by the Rev. S. J. Strandjord. He is a life-long member of that church. He attended the District No. 6 rural school and was graduated from the Clermont High School in 1938. He received a certificate as an Electrical Technician from the Industrial Training Institute at Chicago, IL. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II and was stationed overseas for over three years. He lived on the family farm until about 3 years ago, when he moved to the home he built in Clermont. He had been the custodian for the Marion Lutheran Church for many years and had taught Sunday School, sang in the church choir and held various church offices. In 1982 he was chosen as the American Lutheran Church Brotherhood Man of the Year. He was a self-employed electrician. He loved his work as well as his hobbies, which were wood carving and reading. He had been a member of the Luren Singing Society of Decorah for many years.
He is survived by 2 sisters: Lillian Reierson, Clermont and Edna Anderson, Postville; 2 nephew: Curtis Anderson, Paullina and Bruce Anderson, Postville; a niece, Karla Schrader, Luana and 2 foster nieces, Rose Good, Roswell, NM and Ruth Stickley, Parkersburg, IA.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
