Death of An Old Army Nurse
Mrs. Sarah Henderson, no doubt the last surviving nurse of the war of 1861-65 in Iowa, died at the Soldiers' Home in Marshalltown, Sunday evening, Nov 19th, the remains being brought to Luana for interment in the family lot.

-----

Mrs. Sarah L. Henderson died at the Soldiers' Home, at Marshalltown Monday morning. Her remains were sent to Luana on Tuesday for burial in the family lot. Mrs. Henderson was past 80 years of age.

She was a nurse in the army during the civil war, at the St. Louis and Memphis hospitals. She has been in the Home about two months. Her immediate family long since preceded her to the grave.

She was a member of the W.R.C. at McGregor, and for the past few years, in a rather feeble state of mind and body, she made her home alternately at McGregor and Monona.

Luana - Representatives of the Marquette American Loyal Legion were here Friday evening and placed a government marker on the grave of a Civil war army nurse, Mrs. Sarah L. Henderson, mother of Jeff and Frank Henderson.

Some time during the past year, while cleaning out an old store room at Marquette this marker, with another, was found. No one seemed to know where she was buried. Finally through inquiries placed in nearby towns, her grave was located in the Luana cemetery.
