WALTER C. CLAUSON
Mr. Walter Curtis Clauson, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Clauson, was born February 17, 1906, at Ellsworth, Iowa. Mr. Clauson was a graduate of the Greeley high school. He attended two years at Iowa State College, Ames, and was graduated from State Teachers college, Cedar Falls, in 1933, with a Bachelor of Science degree. In 1936, he took his Master’s degree at Iowa State College. During the past year he was working on his Doctor’s degree, work which he had hoped to continue during the coming summer.
As an educator he taught for three years in Waterville, one-half year in Waukon, coming to Farmersburg three and one-half years ago as superintendent of schools. As teacher and superintendent he always had the welfare of his work at heart, devoting his time and his efforts for the betterment of education. The high respect and regard shown him by his students, by his fellow educators and the community in which he served, bears evidence to his high standard of work, as well as the high character and ideals for which he lived.
On July 23, 1936, he was united in marriage to Miss Dorothy Wright of Cedar Rapids. The esteem, love and companionship of their home was ideal. The saddest days for Mr. Clauson came on March 2, 1938, when his wife was to be taken from him in death leaving him with an infant son. Our ways are not God’s ways; our thoughts are not God’s thoughts. A spiritual struggle followed which Mr. Clauson was slowly conquering. Often he spoke of the support of friends and his fellowmen. To his mother he owed much. She came and made her home with him, caring for his infant son.
But sadness was again to strike in this home. An emergency operation for appendicitis was necessary on Wednesday morning, May 10. Complications followed and death was caused by peritonitis on Wednesday morning, May 17, at 10:00 a.m. We may say, it was a death that he longed for and was not afraid to meet, a death for which he made the necessary preparations.
He reached the age of 33 years and 3 months.
He leaves to mourn his infant son Richard, his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Clauson; his brothers and sisters; Edna Krause, Alden, Iowa; Myra Lunning, Radcliffe, Iowa; Alvin and Leslie of Strawberry Point, Iowa; Esther Koehler, Clinton, Iowa; Florence Vieth, Fort Dodge, Iowa, and a host of other relatives and friends.
